Vacation
This year we decided to go to Turkey (Side) again due to the convenient direct flight from Umeå. This is a place where you have to look deep behind the scenery to find anything that resembles normal life, apart from what tourism has created. Antalya, Side and Alanya receives about 15 miljon tourists every year and there are thousands of hotells. Millions of meals are served every day and a lot of waste is created. Waste water treatment has just begun but still many effluents are untreated and released directly in to rivers and to the Mediterranean sea. It’s not at comforting sight but hopefully it will change in the future.
Fishing was quite popular but I wonder if the fish was edible.
Stray dogs were a common sight and seemingly friendly. I wonder what the little girl was thinking.
Sunsets were amazing and at night the town of side came to life. Cleaning your feet in a fish tank was one of many things offered aside from haircuts, teeshirts, fake chines headphones (Beats by dre, Bose), lamps, herbs and of course food and drink.
Manavgat is the largest river in the area and shares the name with the city it flows trough. Lots and lots of creative boats transports tourists along the river and it gives you a chance to see something different.
At night the hotels lit up the sky with massive floodlights and lasers. Since ramadan ended just the 18th of July the lights were drowned in fireworks that night.
All in all a very nice vacation although extremely hot (35-40 C).
